Telangana U-turn on GHMC divisions stumps BJP

The government’s decision too left the MIM stumped

Hyderabad: The TS government’s decision not to increase the number of municipal divisions in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation from the 150 at present to 200 drew a sharp response from the BJP, which said that the proposal was dropped since the TRS feared a defeat in the polls.

“The TRS doesn’t have a base in the city, hence it dropped the proposal,” said K. Laxman, BJP Floor leader in the Assembly.

The government’s decision too left the MIM stumped, with one of its legislators expressing surprise by saying they do not have the faintest notion why the proposal was withdrawn, that too after a marathon exercise.

Dr Laxman, G. Kishan Reddy, C. Ramachandra Reddy, N.V.S.S. Prabhakar, N. Ramachander, all BJP legislators, had focused on Hyderabad city with an eye on the GHMC polls, undertaking a padayatra from the GHMC head office to the Assembly on Wednesday to highlight the bad condition of the roads, overflowing drains, garbage and the mockery being made of the Swachh Bharath campaign.

“City roads are atrocious. Drains are overflowing at several places. The government created a hungama for seven days in the name of Swachh Bharat and spent '400 crore, without achieving anything. We will take up civic issues in the Assembly,” Dr Laxman said.
