Madras High Court orders recording of evidence in case against Enthiran

Chennai: A Tamil writer is inching closer to winning a battle against superstar Rajnikanth starred-movie ‘Enthiran’. Aarur Tamilnadan, a noted writer, approached the Madras high court five years ago stating that ace director, S. Shankar, MD, Sun Pictures, Kalanidhi Maran, and Sun Pictures Ltd had made the film in 2010 based on a story published by him and registered in 1996.

In the petition, Aarur Tamilnadan, submitted that he penned a robot story – Jugiba. This was first published in a Tamil magazine ‘Iniya Udayam’ in April 1996. Later, the story was published as novel ‘Thik Thik Theepika’ in 2007. The story line was registered on January 1, 1997 and protected under the Copyright Act.

Counsel for petitioner, P.T. Perumal and L. Shivakumar said Tamilnadan saw the film in October 2010 after its release and shocked to note that his story was copied by the film crew and made into the move. The film was released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and other languages and made a huge profit.

Hence, he sought a damage of Rs 1 crore from Shankar, Maran and Sun Pictures. Justice G. Chockalingam, before whom the matter came up for hearing, has directed the master court to collect evidence from the petitioner in four weeks. Counsel for Shankar and Maran have not appeared before court to submit the documents.
