Thiruvananthapuram corporation to go solar from today

As part of the project, two sets of panels for the IT block and the main office have been installed
Thiruvananthapuram: In a bid to save on power and minimize hefty electricity bills, the City Corporation is gearing up to tap solar power. Mayor K Chandrika will inaugurate the solar power panels installed at the Corporation main office on Tuesday.
The rooftop grid interactive solar power system installed at a cost of Rs 1.51 crores is expected to generate 600 to 700 units of power per day.
“There is no storage battery so the Corporation main office and the IT building would use the renewable energy during the day. We require only 450 units per day and the rest we would be giving to KSEB. We placed the work order in March 2015,” said the official. Keltron implemented the project.
As part of the project, two sets of panels for the IT block and the main office have been installed. 100 KW power solar power systems are installed for the IT block and 40 kW power systems for the main building.
“We are yet to claim the subsidy amount from the Centre. We would be placing a request very soon before the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to claim the subsidy amount,” said the official.
