Inter-command climbing meet: South command wins

Sport Climbing is a demonstration sport in 2016 Olympics

OOTY: The army envrions at the Madras Regimental Centre (MRC) at Wellington yet again witnessed the stupendous display of stamina, speed, agility and courage when six teams from various Army Commands of Indian Army competed for the coveted fourth Inter Command Sport Climbing Championship held over the past two days under the aegis of Army Adventure Wing, New Delhi.

Each team comprised of six climbers in the Speed Climbing, Lead Climbing and Bouldering events respectively at the prestigious Army Adventure Nodal Centre (Sport Climbing) at Wellington, by demonstrating exceptional spirit of sportsmanship, courage and determination to participate in this most upcoming and challenging sport.

Sport Climbing is a demonstration sport in 2016 Olympics and a participating sport in 2020 Olympics.

The Southern Command bagged the trophy with 90 points and Nayak Jaskaran Singh of Southern Command clocked the best timing in Speed Climbing.

Lance Nayak Palani Samy of Southern Command emerged champion in the Lead Climbing and Havildar Somnath Sindhe of Southern Command bagged the first place in Bouldering.

While, Col SS Sahi, Director, Army Adventure Wing, New Delhi inaugurated the championship, in a spectacular closing ceremony Brigadier SK Sangwan, Commandant of the MRC, gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up and the championship trophy to the winning team.
