Youth ‘divert’ trucks, arrested as they tried to forcefully divert trucks during Ganesh Immersion

Hyderabad: Nearly 40 youths were apprehended by police from different areas as they tried to forcefully divert trucks for use during Ganesh Immersion. Ten people under RGI Airport police station and nearly 30 youths under Medchal police station were detained Saturday.
Nearly ten youths belonging to Sitarambagh area near Mangalhat came to Gaganpahad area. Police found them in a suspicious manner, and on inquiry it was found that they came there to take trucks and use them for Ganesh Immersion.
“We brought them to the police station and counselled them against such activities and then let them off,” said RGI airport area inspector Sudhaker. In another incident, Medchal police apprehended nearly 30 youths, who were found intercepting trucks and forcing the drivers to take the vehicles for the immersions. “They were threatening the drivers. A few drivers even received blows from these youths,” said Medhal inspector Shashank Reddy. The youths belonged to areas like Motinagar, Borabanda, Kacheguda etc. Police seized four cars and two bikes from them. A case under sections 336 and 441 of IPC has been registered against them. The accused were produced before a court.
Civic body men launch ‘Operation Clean-up’
Over 20,000 idols were immersed on Day 9 of the Ganesh festival in the city, and another 10,000 are expected to be immersed by Saturday midnight, ahead of the nimajjanam procession on Sunday.
The HMDA is already on the job of removing the idols and puja debris from the NTR Marg side. Usually, idols that are immersed along the Tank Bund are not removed. For Sunday’s Ganesh immersion procession, the Metro Water Board has set up 101 camps equipped with 30 lakh water sachets along the route.
Temporary toilets have been set up on NTR Marg, Necklace Road and Tank Bund for the processionists. A total of 23,353 temporary lights have been provided at various locations in entire GHMC area costing Rs 65.91 lakh.
The GHMC has deployed 180 Ganesh Action Teams on the procession routes. Each GAT consists of a sanitary supervisor and 21 workers who will cover the total 357.85 km route length of the procession.
