Ashwin and Syed Riyaz had a quarrel inside the prison over a trivial issue on Friday morning

Bengaluru: The Lokayukta in-house extortion scam accused Yerabati Ashwin and Syed Riyaz had a quarrel inside the prison over a trivial issue on Friday morning, said sources from the Central Prison of Bengaluru, Parappana Agarahara.

Yerabati Ashwin, son of Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao and Syed Riyaz, the suspended PRO of Lokayukta who are in judicial custody got into a verbal altercation during the breakfast time which later escalated physical that was witnessed by other inmates of the prison, said sources from the prison department.

“Around 8.30 am on Friday while breakfast was served at the prison, Riyaz picked up a quarrel with Ashwin alleging that he wanted to celebrate Eid along with his family members, but he could not do so as he had landed in trouble because of Ashwin. There was an exchange of heated arguments which escalated into a fist fight where both of them punched each other and even tore each others’ clothes. The prison staff and other inmates intervened and separated the duo, added the sources.

It might be recalled that on August 8, journalist M.B. Srinivasa Gowda and his associate Shankare Gowda, who were also arrested in the same extortion case quarreled for giving different statements before the SIT officials during interrogation. Both were reportedly kept in the same barrack after they were remanded to judicial custody on July 31.
