Good Samaritans to clean hospital in Hyderabad

A group of 500 professionals to take up sanitation on October 5
Hyderabad: A group of 500 Hyderabadis, including professionals and police officials, will conduct a clean-up drive at the Gandhi Hospital on October 5.
The cleaning drive will involve removal of debris, dumped garbage, sweeping, removal of hospital waste etc. from the entire campus including the wards.
Civil engineer and organizer of the initiative, Sanjay Singh, said, “The clean drive was planned for the coming Sunday, however, due to Ganesh Immersion it has been postponed to October 5. A team will be meeting the Gandhi Hospital superintendent to first understand what the hospital needs. It has been observed that a lot of hospital waste is being dumped in the premises itself and no regular sweeping is done in the campus. The team will inspect the wards, operations rooms and corridors to check if pest control is needed.”
The participants will also include director general of Prison and Correctional services, Mr V.K Singh, who has participated in several clean up drives with the group.
After Gandhi Hospital, the Osmania General Hospital is next on the list.
Most of the members of the group belong to a NGO named Jan Seva Sangh, which has around 10,000 volunteers in the city. Every Sunday, the group conducts clean up drives at various localities. So far they have covered Miyapur, Kukatpally, Bala Nagar, Himayat Nagar and the Indira Park area. The focus now has changed to cleaning up hospitals and the team intends to cover all government hospitals.
Mr L.M. Choudhary, advisor to the group, said, ?Hospital waste is not disposed in a scientific manner, which is dangerous. The focus is to clear the medical garbage. The premises need to be cleaned as hundreds visit the hospitals. The team will interact with the hospital authorities to check on what is required.”
