Convene all-party meet on Sri Lankan war crimes, Anbumani tells Jayalalithaa

Chennai: PMK’s chief ministerial candidate Dr Anbumani Ramadoss on Thursday urged Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to convene an all-party meeting to impress upon the Centre to move a resolution in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), seeking international probe into the alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka.
In a letter to Ms Jayalalithaa, Dr Anbumani said that the resolution adopted in the all party meeting should be handed over to Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon his return from US by Chief Minister led delegation.
PMK leader made the demand in the wake of US’s draft resolution in the UNHRC against Sri Lanka in which it had reportedly altered its earlier stand of seeking international probe and favoured an internal probe into alleged human rights violations and war crimes committed during peak of hostilities against LTTE in 2009 in the island. Dr Anbumani said that only if political differences in the state were overcome, could the Lankan Tamils get justice.
He also lauded Chief Minister for getting an unanimous resolution adopted in the Tamil Nadu Assembly urging India to press for an international probe and take diplomatic efforts to change any possible pro-Lanka stand by the US in the UNHRC.
