Madras High Court warns Madurai Bar Association

Advocates plan protest meet on Sept. 27
Chennai: Advocates have decided to organise a state-wide meeting at Tiruchirappalli on September 27 to protest the court's warning that it would withdraw the Madurai Bar Association license to function on the court campus.
At the general body meeting organised on Wednesday, the court accused the association of not replying to the notice of the high court regarding their ill behaviour and disrespect to the judges. However, lawyers claimed they had replied and denied the court allegations. The court has, however, warned of revoking the license.
In a communication to the Madurai Bench, the court had said the unruly behaviour of advocates had lowered the dignity of the profession. The court was of the view that the continued occupation of the premises by the association would not be 'conducive for the smooth functioning of the court.' If advocates failed to comply, the association's license to function on the premises would be withdrawn.
Undeterred, S. Karunakaran, joint secretary, Madurai Bar Association, said apart from holding the meeting in Tiruchy, lawyers would also stage a protest on September 30 during the next hearing in the contempt of court case against two advocates.
