Cabinet to discuss Telangana farmer suicides

The govt is keen to hike the ex gratia to the kin of farmers who commit suicides
Hyderabad: The Cabinet meeting convened by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday will see discussion on the spate of farmers’ suicides and also a decision on the demand to hike ex-gratia to the kin of dead farmers from the present Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh or more.
The Cabinet will also discuss a strategy to be adopted by the government to counter the Opposition’s onslaught in the Assembly Session beginning from September 23 on farmer suicides and other major issues.
Sources said that the government is keen to hike the ex gratia to the kin of farmers who commit suicides. The amount had been fixed during Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s time in 2004.
With the Kharif season ending and Rabi beginning, the government is planning to make the best out of this season in view of the late rains.
The Cabinet will also discuss pending irrigation projects including redesigning of Pranahita Chevella, Palamuru-Ranga Reddy lift irrigation scheme and other projects, the Telangana Water Grid, sanction of additional posts of additional PS, PROs and other posts for ministers and rectification of the GO pertaining to the Waddera community etc.
