OROP: Veterans urge Narendra Modi to remove shortcomings

The OROP scheme has seven shortcomings, says Major General (Retired) Satbir Singh

New Delhi: The ex-servicemen, who would be organising a 'Gaurav Rally' on Saturday to decide their future course of action with regard to the implementation of the One Rank One Pension, said the scheme has seven shortcomings.

"We have only one demand from this government, implement the 'real OROP', the announced OROP has seven shortcomings. The government must remove those shortcomings," said Major General (Retired) Satbir Singh.
He also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the OROP with the war veterans.

"The shortcomings of OROP must be removed. We have already thanked him for announcing the OROP after 42 years, but we don't want a lame OROP," he added.

When asked whether the ex-servicemen would attend the 1965 war victory celebrations, Major General (Retired) Singh said that the war veterans would boycott all the function till the government accepts the real OROP.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had last week made a formal announcement regarding the implementation of OROP.

The veterans, however, are opposed to the government's proposal that voluntarily retired soldiers would not be included under the OROP scheme.
