Plea seeks intervention of Kerala High Court in strays issue

The Litigant submitted that stray dog bites were due to the non removal of stray dogs from the street

Kochi: A petition has been filed before the Kerala High Court seeking urgent intervention of the court in the stray dog menace.

Litigant Basil Attipetty informed the court that attacks by stray dogs was rampant in the state and there were several victims in recent days.

He submitted that stray dog bites were due to the non removal of stray dogs from the street. A Division Bench had held that there had to be more concern for the life of a human being than that of stray dogs, he pointed out.

The petitioner pointed out that when he filed a plea on the issue, the government had agreed to file details of the steps taken by it to curb the menace.

The petitioner argued that the court on various occasions had asked government to produce details of the schemes but they had not filed any statements.

The petitioner also informed the court that some schoolgoing children sustained severe injuries after being attacked by a stray dog at Kothamangalam last week.

Considering the repeated incidents, appropriate orders may be issued to the government to take urgent steps in this regard, he argued.

In another plea, Basil objected to Satjeev Karuna Parivar Trust’s petition seeking to register cases against the officers who removed the stray dogs in certain areas.
