Commonwealth Youth Games: Indians bag two bronzes in Samoa

Abitha Mary and Anamika finish third in track & field at the Commonwealth Youth Games

Apia (Samoa): India collected two bronze medals from track and field events on a relatively quiet day on the third day of competition in the 5th Commonwealth Youth Games here on Wednesday.

Abitha Mary Manuel and Anamika Das bagged a bronze each in the girls 800m and shot put event respectively on the final day of athletics events. With the two bronzes, India’s medal count swelled to 10 (four gold, two silvers, four bronzes) in three days. India slipped to seventh in the medals tally.

Track and field athletes contributed two golds, one silver and three bronze in India’s total medal count. Kerala girl Abitha clocked an impressive 2:07.33, her personal best, to finish third in girls 800m final.

India got their second bronze through shot putter Anamika Das. The Uttar Pradesh girl heaved the ball to a personal best of 15.03m.
