Brinda Karat hits out at Dravidian parties

The CPI(M) leader opined that capitalist development was unsuited for the country

Coimbatore: The Dravidian Parties of Tamil Nadu have buried the principles of Periyar “deeply into opportunistic politics”, asserted the CPI (M) leader Ms Brinda Karat. Addressing a seminar here organised by the ‘Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front’ to mark, Dr Ambedkar’s 125 th birthday anniversary here on Wednesday, she said, “CPI(M) demanded that BJP-led Central government should convene a special Parliament session to celebrate Dr Ambedkar’s birthday.” But the Centre is keen only to convene a special session to discuss the ‘Goods and service Tax Bill, which was the demand of the corporate owners, she pointed out. The CPI(M) leader opined that capitalist development was unsuited for the country as it “encouraged division of labour”. “Now, the RSS says that there is no division in Hindu society, but contrary to its claims, the BJP gave tickets to upper caste persons to contest in elections who committed crimes against tribal and scheduled caste people,” Karat charged. Referring to BJP and RSS setting a new trend now to praise Dr Ambedkar, she said they however, imposed a ban on the activities of the IIT-Madras Ambedkar and Periyar study circle. “There is a huge gap between what they say and what they do,” she added. “According to the national crime records bureau statistics, every day a Dalit women is raped and every hour caste crime is committed. In Tamil Nadu, so many young couple’s lives are lost due to so-called ‘honour Killing’, she said, adding, it had become a new trend in the upper caste system.

Accusing the Dravidian parties for not having the courage to talk about honour killing.
