BHEL takes initiative to promote eye donations

5 eye donating staff families honoured

TIRUCHY: Marriages for three visually challenged couples were solemnised at the BHEL here on Tuesday, as part of the 30th ‘National Eye Donation Day’ celebrations.

The couples who tied the knot were P. Mahendran (Tiruchy) and S. Mala (Ariyalur), S. Parthiban (with normal sight) from Thanjavur and R.Muthulakshmi (Thanjavur) and K. Yogeswaran (Nagapattinam) and A. Divya (Thanjavur).

State vice-president of the Tamil Nadu Murpoku Ezhuthalar Kalaignargal Sangam Kavingar Nandala presided over the marriage ceremony. Among others, J. Swarnalatha (DEO), P. Soundrarajan, GM - Valves, P. Nagamanikam, GM - Spares, K.Murali, AGM - HR of BHEL also participated. N. Swaminathan, district differently-abled welfare officer solemnized the wedding of the couples.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various competitions conducted to create eye donation awareness among school students of BHEL campus and to encourage the visually challenged, from Government Girls higher secondary school for the blind - Puthur, Rehabilitation Centre for visually challenged women-Manarpuram, and employees of ‘ORBIT’ in building their inner confidence.

Five eye donating-family-members of BHEL employees were honoured in this occasion. The newly wedded couples were each presented with marriage gifts worth '30, 000 including household articles.
