Burglars decamp with Rs 26 lakh from Thrissur ATM

Forensic and finger print experts visited the place and collected evidence
Thrissur: Robbers have struck an ATM of the State Bank of Travancore in the town and made off with over Rs 26 lakh. A sum of Rs 26, 02, 800 was found stolen from the ATM located near Veliyannur temple around 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday. It was dysfunctional since September 2 and the last time cash was filled in the machine was on September 1. The robbery was noticed when technical experts and some bank officials came to examine the ATM.
The money was stolen probably by breaking open the security codes for filling cash in the ATM. The trays used for storing the cash were also stolen while there was no evidence of using any force in breaking open the ATM.
“The preliminary assessment is that persons familiar with the security codes for filling cash in the machine are the culprits,” Mr K.G. Simon, city police commissioner, told DC.
Forensic and finger print experts visited the place and collected evidence.
“We have conducted preliminary investigations,” said Mr Simon. Although a CCTV camera was inside the ATM counter, it was not functional, said east police circle inspector K.K. Sajeev.
