BJP demands Telangana be declared drought-hit

Reddy said that they would raise the farmers’ suicides issue in the Assembly

Nizamabad: BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy criticised that the TRS government ignored the distress of farmers in the state. Agrarian crisis coupled with severe drought conditions, the farmers are forced to end their lives, he said. Instead of instilling confidence among the farmers, Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao went to China tour, he said.

In protest against the state government’s attitude on farmers’ problems, BJP district unit conducted maha dharna here at collectorate on Monday. Party leaders and activists took out a rally in the city urging the farmers not to commit suicide. Speaking at the agitation camp, Mr Kishan Reddy said that around 1,200 farmers committed suicide in the state for last 17 months.

“Highest 200 farmers ended their lives in KCR’s native Medak district,” he said.

The BJP president demanded immediate declaration of drought mandals in the state. Mr Kishan Reddy said that they would raise the farmers’ suicides issue in the Assembly.
