Governor Vajubhai Vala frowns on MLCs with dual votes

Governor has decided to write to the regional commissioner for cancellation of the vote of MLCs
Bengaluru: Governor Vajubhai Vala has sought a list of Congress MLCs whose names were allegedly recently added to the voters list in Bengaluru to enable them to vote in the BBMP mayoral polls.
When BJP corporators submitting a memorandum to the Governor on Saturday, he had asked for a list of Congress MLCs elected to the Legislative Council from local bodies constituencies, who had voting rights in their home districts and in Bengaluru too. Along with the list of MLCs, the governor has also sought proof from BJP regarding the selection of home districts by MLCs to utilise the MLC fund. The BJP had alleged that a few Congress MLCs have selected their home districts to utilise the MLC fund for development work. Since they have selected their home districts, they cannot claim voting rights in Bengaluru, BJP told the Governor which made Mr Vala ask for proof regarding selections of home districts by Congress MLCs.
The Governor has also decided to write to the Bengaluru regional commissioner for cancellation of voting rights of MLCs who have selected their districts outside Bengaluru. Meanwhile the BJP core committee meeting held here on Sunday, discussed the party’s likely failure to retain the BBMP mayoral posts though it has emerged as the largest party in the poll.
Core committee leaders expressed their dissatisfaction against Bengaluru leaders for failing to take the support of Independent corporators when they approached the party office. The state leadership has directed the BJP city unit to find alternative methods to ensure they come to power in BBMP. If Independent and Congress corporators are ready to abstain from voting, party leaders should convince them to do so, core panel leaders suggested to the Bengaluru unit.
