Chennai: Senior DMK leader T.K.S Elangovan on Friday tendered apology to party chief M. Karunanidhi for violating party discipline and airing views on sensitive issues.
Elangovan, who handed over his one-page letter in person to the party chief, copy of the letter was circulated to the media by Anna Arivalayam, said, “Senior party functionaries should not act in any manner affecting the leader. But, I have violated it,” appealing to the party chief to accept his apologies.
Meanwhile, Karunanidhi, writing for party organ ‘Murasoli’ appealed to his party members not to play in to the hands of the rival forces that are trying to destabilize the DMK and benefit from it.
Referring to the statements made by his estranged son Alagiri and Stalin in the aftermath of People’s Studies survey that put the younger brother ahead of his father, Karunanidhi said the survey and the media reportage of the issue were only attempts by a section of the media to drive a wedge through the DMK and help the ruling AIADMK. Recalling the statements of his ideological Periyar and political mentor C.N. Annadurai, the DMK president appealed to the party functionaries to stay united.
