Sheena was strangled by step-father Sanjeev Khanna, confirms police

Indrani's driver Shyamwar Rai held Sheena's legs tightly while she struggled in the car

Mumbai: A senior police officer confirmed that it was Sanjeev Khanna who strangled Sheena to death with Indrani’s help while the driver S. Rai held her legs tightly while she struggled in a Bandra bylane. She was kidnapped from near Bandra’s National College. Khanna had earlier allegedly lied to the police that he was in the car, but fell asleep and woke up to see her dead.

The police officer further said that while taking her to the dumping spot in Pen in Raigad, they combed her hair and applied lipstick on her face so the toll naka authorities or police did not suspect anything. They made it look like she was fast asleep. To their luck, no authorities checked them in the wee hours.

The silver-coloured Chevrolet Optra has been traced and its registration number is MH-O1 MA 2605. After it was used in the murder, it changed hands and had three different owners. The statements of all three have been recorded.

The police also said Mikhail and his grandparents used to get Rs 40,000 every month from Indrani for their expenses and so didn’t dare to ask her much about Sheena. In another major development, Nair Hospital has confirmed that the bones belonged to a woman aged between 20 and 25.

For the fourth time and third day in a row, Peter Mukerjea was grilled for the whole day at the Khar police station. Another police source said that there was a possibility that Peter might be turned into a witness in the case.

Dna report after a fortnight:

It will take about a fortnight for the city-based Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) to perform DNA analysis and submit the reports in the Sheena Bora murder case.

The analysis technique to be used depends on the state in which the bones are. DNA extraction can be performed easily from bones, but the fact that the Mumbai Police chose to send the samples to CDFD rather than the Kalina Forensic Lab in Mumbai indicates that the bones could well be burnt, as Sheena’s body was burnt after the alleged murder. But DNA profiling can still be performed using techniques depending on the level of charring.
