Kid lives two days with dead parents

The couple allegedly had frequent arguments over their finances

Hyderabad: A one-year-old boy, who lived next to the dead bodies of his parents for two days in their Prasanna Nagar Colony flat in Jeedimetla, was rescued on Thursday.

Sources said that the child’s parents, Manjunatha and Meenakshi, had allegedly committed suicide two days ago by hanging themselves from the roof of their penthouse flat they had rented. The couple from Bengaluru left a suicide note written in Kannada. The couple were said to be quarrelling over financial issues.

Owner heard child’s cry, alerted cops

The house owner of the couple at Prasanna Nagar Colony in Jeedimetla, heard a child’s continuous cries and when he went to enquire found the parents dead and alerted the police. Police suspect that the couple took the step due to financial problems.

The infant has been shifted to a baby care centre at Kukatpally. Police said that Manjunatha and Meenakshi had moved into the apartment nearly five months ago.

Manjunatha was working as a sales associate at Adishwar Electronics at Kukatpally, while Meenakshi was working at Hyper Mart in Kukatpally.

The couple allegedly had frequent arguments over their finances. Two days ago too they had a severe argument over some financial matter, said the owner of the house who lives on the ground floor.

On Thursday, he had noticed that the couple had not collected their milk packet from the gate and had heard the child crying at noon. But he did not suspect anything.

On Friday morning, when he again heard the child crying, he went upstairs to investigate and was shocked to see the couple hanging from the ceiling.

“We found a suicide note written in Kannada. We suspect that financial disputes lead them to commit suicide. It could have happened on Tuesday night. We are trying to locate their relatives in Hyderabad,” said Jagathgirigutta SI Srinivas. The bodies were shifted for post-mortem and the case is being investigated.
