Bengaluru: Fake Yeshaswini cards racket busted

The accused have so far issued fake cards to 400-500 people

BENGALURU: The sleuths of the fraud and misappropriation squad of the Central Crime Branch have arrested two men, who were allegedly involved in creating fake Yeshaswini cards meant for farmers, by charging exorbitant rate from the public.

The accused have been identified as Radhakrishna, 62, a resident of Chikkathogur Gate in Electronic City and a native of Chintamani taluk in Chikkaballapura district, and Murugesh, 31, a resident of Samandur village in Anekal taluk.

Police said that they had received information that Radhakrishna was creating fake Yeshaswini cards and giving it to those not eligible to avail benefits under the government’s health scheme meant for farmers and their family members. Based on the tip off, the police raided his house and arrested him. When questioned he reportedly revealed that he was getting blank Yashaswini Cards from Murugesh and filled it up in the names of those who approached him seeking the card. He used to charge Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 from the public.

“Without any verification of documents, he used to issue the cards. He also had a fake rubber stamp of the bank and stamped the seal on the card and hoodwinked the public by making appear as original. The bank officials also signed the card as it had no flaws. As per the rules, the beneficiaries needs to be members of the bank for at least six months before applying for Yeshaswini card and should produce related documents,” the police said.

The accused have so far issued fake cards to 400-500 people. The police have seized fake cards, fake rubber stamps and other things from the accused. A case is registered in Electronic City police station in this connection.
