Watch: Man straps 54 drones together to make a mini-helicopter

It can carry a maximum weight of 148 kgs

After getting bored flying drones in the air, one guy decided to do something radical. He strapped 54 mini-drones together to make a – wait for it – personal helicopter.

YouTuber gasturbine101 came up with the innovative design after applying some hobby electronics and even adding an umbrella to create The Swarm. Although the contraption cannot be technically called a drone anymore – as a drone needs to unmanned – we think it’s as awesome as a science project can get.

The Swarm can carry a maximum weight of 148 kgs and has a flight time of around 10 minutes. Even though it isn’t exactly stable when airborne, we still think it’s a small step towards what personal travel may look like in the future.
