LLB students petition Governor against Mahatma Gandhi University

The university has notified the second semester examination of the three-year LLB students on September 16

Kochi: The students of Ernakulam Government Law College have shot off a letter to Governor P. Sathasivam, who is also the chancellor, urging him to take the university to task for not conducting the LLB university exams on time and force it to conduct them as early as possible.

Ironically, this happened on a day the Vice-Chancellor of MG University, Dr Babu Sebastian, called a press conference in Kottayam to tom-tom his achievements in the past one year after assuming the office of the VC.

“The 6th semester exam of five-year LLB was held in November 2014 and the very same batch is running into the third month of their 8th semester. Still there is no notice regarding the conduct of their 7th semester examination. The same scenario exists in the case of another five-year LLB batch which is in its third month of 6th semester. Their 4th semester exam was held in January 2015 but there is no notice as to when their 5th semester exam will take place,” says the letter written by the Law College Union chairman Muhammed Ibrahim.

In another development, the university has notified the second semester examination of the three-year LLB students on September 16. But these students have been able to avail merely 20 working days for their study.

“The internal assessment procedure of these students has not yet been completed and the hasty progression to the exam would only have a negative impact on the academic performance of the students” said the letter to the Governor. The chairman requested the Governor to intervene to turn the situation in favour of the students.
