Finally, Telangana Cabinet to meet

Meeting convened after 3 months; KCR to leave for China on Sept. 8

Hyderabad: The Telangana Cabinet will meet on Wednesday, September 2, after a gap of nearly three months. The last meeting was held on June 10.

The Cabinet is likely to take up crucial issues such as redesigning of irrigation projects and introduction of cheap liquor as part of the TS government’s new excise policy from October 1.

The Chief Minister, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, will go on a China tour from September 8 to 15 and the Cabinet is expected to discuss the MoUs to be signed in China regarding investments in Telangana.

My Home Group chairman J. Rameshwar Rao, Apollo Hospitals joint MD Sangeeta Reddy, Nasscom chairman B.V.R. Mohan Reddy besides senior officials from GMR, Hetero Drugs, DRL etc. will accompany the CM to China.

Though the last Cabinet meet was scheduled for July 11, it was cancelled at the last minute as the Chief Minister fell ill.

Opposition parties are meanwhile protesting the redesigning of irrigation projects, especially the Pranahita-Chevella project, while women’s organisations are against the supply of cheap liquor for Rs 15 and Rs 30 for 90 ml and 180 ml bottles respectively with a view to discouraging people from consuming gudumba (illicit distilled liquor), which is posing severe health problems.

Besides these, the Cabinet is expected to ratify the filling of 50,000 vacancies in various departments and regularising the services of contract staff besides finalising the schedule for the Monsoon Session of Legislature.

The guidelines for “2BHK houses for the poor” scheme are also likely to be finalised in the meeting with a view to launch the scheme on October 22, on the occasion of Dussehra in Warangal and Mahabubnagar districts initially.
