Rajnath Singh, HD Deve Gowda spike CM plans?

The BJP and JD(S) camps refused to state officially that Mr Singh spoke to Mr Gowda on Sunday morning
Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s game plan to grab power in BBMP that looked almost certain on Saturday night turned into a complex affair by Sunday evening. It was smooth sailing for Mr Siddaramaiah till two developments on Sunday jeopardised chances of his strategy reaching its logical end. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh reportedly spoke to Janata Dal (S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda on Sunday, while the Congress high command made it clear to the chief minister that it would not interfere in local body politics.
Battle for mayor
The BJP and JD(S) camps refused to state officially that Mr Singh spoke to Mr Gowda on Sunday morning. But highly placed sources confirmed the development. Union Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Sunday exuded confidence that the JD(S) would not help the Congress, hinting that the JD(S) could retreat from its earlier stand. “State JD(S) president H.D. Kumaraswamy’s decision to call back his corporators and legislators from Kerala too is a fall-out of Singh-Gowda talks,” sources said.
Congress sources said that AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh’s message to Mr Siddaramaiah that the AICC would not intervene in local body politics was in fact, a setback to the chief minister as he now has to consult with KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar and arrive at a consensus before going ahead with his plans. Considering the cold war between Mr Siddaramaiah and other senior leaders of the party, Dr Parameshwar may not agree to the tie-up with the JD(S), they said.
With the Congress high command deciding to keep a distance, Mr Deve Gowda too might have second thoughts before blessing this alliance, the sources said. Highly placed sources in all the three parties agreed that the alliance proposal faced innumerable hurdles and may not come through.
