Janata Dal(S) to watch Congress move

The JD(S) is apprehensive that Vijay Mallya, MP, might not participate in voting
Bengaluru: Janata Dal (Secular) legislators and corporators have moved to Le Meridian Hotel in Kochi. The six independent BBMP corporators and their family members are said to be at a resort nearby.
Of the three JD(S) legislators from the city, Mr Akhanda Srinivasmurthy and Mr Gopalaiah are in Kochi, while Mr Zameer Ahamed Khan is in Bengaluru. Those who are in Kochi are likely to return in two days, when the party calls them.
Sources said the JD(S) will not commit itself publicly to support the Congress’ bid to stake claim to power in the BBMP till that party makes sure that it can sail through elections to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts.
The Congress cleared the first hurdle in forming an alliance with the JD(S) when it got the go-ahead from the Congress.“The Congress is confident that the lone SDPI member will not vote for the BJP. Six of the other seven independents are with them. But the problem is with the ex-officio members. The Congress should hold on to all the independent ex-officio members and ensure that they would vote for Congress. Even if one independent RS member abstains, it comes to close contest. Till such time all the facts and figures are in our hand, we may not come out in the open with our decision,” sources said.
The JD(S) is apprehensive that Vijay Mallya, MP, might not participate in voting. The JD(S) does not want to be in an awkward position if the entire operation fails and is treading cautiously, sources said.
