HD Kumaraswamy asks party corporators to return from Kerala

Criticising the earlier BJP rule at the BBMP, he said the saffron party brought disrepute to Bengaluru as it could not clear garbage
Chikkamagaluru: After taking stock of the political situation over sharing of power at the BBMP, state JD(S) president H.D. Kumaraswamy, who is at a resort here, on Sunday said he spoke with his party leaders over phone and told them to get back to Bengaluru cutting short their Kerala tour.
JD(S) corporators and six of the eight independent corporators are staying at a resort in Kerala to thwart any poaching attempts by the BJP. Mr Kumarswamy said, “It was not in good taste for JD(S) corporators to be with Congress legislators and Independents. That is why I have asked them to get back to Bengaluru as it would send a wrong signal to the people. Going on a tour of Kerala too was unwarranted at this time.”
Reiterating that the JD(S) will maintain equidistance from the Congress and BJP, he said, “Both the national parties have used the JD(S) to their advantage and have tried to destroy us. My decision is to maintain equidistance from the Congress and BJP over sharing of power at the BBMP.”
Criticising the earlier BJP rule at the BBMP, he said the saffron party brought disrepute to Bengaluru as it could not clear garbage.
The state capital, which was once known as Garden City, became a garbage city overnight and the fact was reported even in the foreign media, he said.
“So far, none of the leaders of both the national parties have contacted me to discuss the BBMP power sharing issue. “There is no question of our party supporting either the Congress or the BJP. A meeting of JD(S) leaders will be held on Tuesday in Bengaluru to decide the future,” he said.
Mr Kumaraswamy has been staying at a resort in Chikkamagaluru since Friday evening and is scheduled to leave for Bengaluru on Monday.
