Nearly 400 road mishaps were reported in the first 7 months of 2015

Hyderabad: Despite deploying special patrols and new mechanisms for traffic control, Cyberabad has witnessed a steep increase in accidents this year.

Nearly 400 more road mishaps were reported in the first seven months of this year compared to 2014. One hundred more deaths also occurred on the roads this year against last year's death toll.

According to data released by the Cyberabad Traffic Police, 2,313 road mishaps were reported till July this year while only 1,918 accidents were reported in 2014 during the same period.

As many as 697 people were killed on the roads this year till July, while only 591 deaths were reported in this duration last year.

July was the most fatal month this year with 115 deaths reported on the roads, while only 71 people died of road mishaps last year in July.

According to senior officials, there are more accidents in Cyberabad as national and state highways pass through its jurisdiction.

One of the major causes for fatal accidents on the roads in the outskirts is the increasing number of underage and inexperienced drivers, officials say.

The maximum number of fatal accidents and deaths were reported under the Shamshabad traffic division, which also covers Vanasthalipuram. Over 55 people were killed in this division in Cyberabad. Apart from Shamshabad and Vanasthalipuram, roads in places like Hayathnagar, Meerpet, Adibatla, Yacharam, Manchal were the most dangerous.
