Making art affordable

Artist Priyanka Poogalia’s new start-up ensures everyone can buy art

For Priyanka Poogalia, art has been a passion since her childhood. But she started pursuing it as a full-time profession seven years ago. And today, she’s on a quest — to make art affordable to all.

At the August Fest, one of the largest start-up conferences in the country, there are probably just a few start-ups that are really not related to “tech”. One among them was Arts for Heart by Priyanka.

Today, Priyanka is not just selling her art but is also collaborating with other artists and “renting” artworks through her website and Facebook pages. “Art doesn’t need to be confined within the walls of a gallery. I believe in that concept and that’s why we, a small group of artists, got together to build a community that is all about affordable art,” she says.

So Arts for Heart sells, collaborates and also rents artwork. Ask her why renting and she says, “Today, in a lot of homes you see artefacts that are more or less a replacement for art. We want to change that.

By making art affordable, we are looking at someone who wants to change the decor of their home often or office spaces who want to feature different kind of artworks,” says the artist who does acrylic and charcoal works.

Her husband Jayant can be seen helping her around at the stall and he says, “The idea is to get to the ‘mass’ and not just the ‘class’. That’s why we had this unconventional idea of renting art.”

The rental work come for as cheap as Rs 1,500 for an artwork for three months. In their six months of functioning, they have rented over 50 works.
