Tusker blocks Kovai-Anaikatti road

Blocked traffic for nearly an hour

COIMBATORE: A Tusker strayed on the Coimbatore-Anaikatti road on Saturday, blocking traffic for nearly an hour.

“We travelled to a relative’s house at Attappati Taluk in Palkkad district through Coimbatore-Anaikatti road on Saturday morning in the Kerala state transport corporation bus. While the bus tried to cross the Anaikatti forest road, a tusker emerged from the forest and blocked the traffic.

“Panic gripped the public, when the bus driver blew the horn. But the elephant refused to move from the road. After an hour, the elephant gave way to the vehicles and traffic resumed,” said P. Palanisamy, construction labour of Saibaba Colony in Coimbatore.

“In the Anaikattai area, elephants have right to cross the roads. So we are not involved in the work of chasing them away. Vehicle drivers passed through the Anaikattai road should be aware of elephants crossing,” the Anaikattai forest officials said.
