Student beaten up for copying in test at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayam

The incident came to light when the student revealed the incident to her parents after she returned home on Saturday

Hyderabad: A Class X student was allegedly beaten by her teacher for copying during a test at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayam, run by Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society, at Mahamuttaram mandal on Thursday.

The incident came to light when the student revealed the incident to her parents after she returned home on Saturday.

According to sources, the student, Gogu Sammakka, was beaten by her teacher Sunita, when she was caught copying form her classmate during a test conducted on Thursday.

The girl hails from Yamanpalli in Mahamuttaram mandal. Her father, Mr Saraiah, alleged that the teacher had hit her on her hands and legs and that she was not able to walk properly and her hands had turned black and swollen.

The student said that the teacher had later ordered her to say that she had been injured after falling down the stairs of the hostel.

“The Staff of the Mahamuttaram primary health centre hesitated to provide treatment and give tablets to me,” she said, adding, “The teacher had beaten me thrice earlier and many other students too.”

On Friday, the teacher called up Mr Saraiah and told him to take his daughter home as she had been injured falling down the stairs. The student, however, told her parents about the corporal punishment after they enquired about the injuries.
