NGO begins to clear harmful plants

The idea behind this move was to uproot plants
TIRUCHY: Volunteers of the city-based ‘Thanneer’, an NGO for preserving water and protecting the environment, and student-members of the Jamal Mohamed college Thanneer students’ club, in association with the Tiruchirapalli city corporation (TCC), commenced the removal of Prosopis Juliflora (seemai karuvelan) plants in the playground of the government higher secondary school situated near the TCC’s compost yard in the suburb of Ariyamangalam on Friday.
In a release here today, secretary of Thannneer K C Neelamegam said that the idea behind this move was to uproot plants, which pose a danger to human health as well as ground water potential, by undertaking a massive tree plantation.
Among others, Corporation’s deputy mayor M. Srinivasan, president of Thanneer M. Sekaran and students of the college participated in the drive.
