Hyderabad received varied rainfall

The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall warning

Hyderabad: Several parts of Hyderabad have received different amounts of rainfall over the the past few days. The wide variation is visible in the rainfall data available with the state.

Rainfall varied from 19.25 mm in Himayatnagar and 18.25 mm in Amberpet to 2.25 mm in Bahadurpura and 0.75 mm in Marredpally.

Asked about this, a senior official of the IMD said rainfall variation over the city is normal, especially when the clouds are of the cumulonimbus type and not monsoon clouds as is the case in Hyderabad over the past few days.

“Rain from cumulonimbus clouds fall heavily over a particular area. As the cloud disperses, light showers are experienced over the areas it passes,” the officer said.

However, when rains occur due to monsoon clouds, the distribution of rainfall over a large area, even as large as a district, is fairly even. Areas with hillocks and good green cover get more rain, he said.

The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam districts of TS for the next 48 hours. The heavy rainfall warning issued for isolated places over AP on Friday was withdrawn on Saturday.

The IMD now predicts that moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers will occur at few places over coastal AP and light to moderate rain or thundershowers over Rayalaseema. The monsoon is active over Telangana thanks to the low pressure area located over Jharkhand.
