MLAs in Tamil Nadu seek facilities in their constituencies

Getting ready for Assembly polls
Chennai: With hardly eight months left for the next Assembly polls, MLAs in the state are now making a beeline to ministers’ offices seeking announcements and execution of projects in their constituencies.
The footfall of MLAs is high in public works, health and education departments. AIADMK MLAs, including senior ministers, are now exchanging official papers among their cabinet colleagues seeking better infrastructure and facilities in their constituencies.
In fact, on Thursday when the Assembly session concluded post 4 pm, ruling party MLAs were seen trouping towards ministers. Health minister C. Vijayabhaskar was seen exchanging ideas with his senior colleague Energy minister Natham R. Viswanathan, when the latter handed over a data sheet related to local hospitals in Natham constituency.
“Please check out on what can be done for the primary health centres in Natham and the public will be benefited”, said Viswanathan to an acknowledging health minister.
“Anna, let the tahsildar building come later, desilting of tank not yet over. People of the area are looking forward to this”, requested an AIADMK MLA
to finance and public works minister O. Panneerselvam, who on Thursday tabled policy demand of his portfolio in the Assembly.
However, there were also grudging MLAs like Aslam Baasha, representing Ambur constituency, who was irked with the state for not allocating an MLA office to him despite requests. On Thursday Aslam Baasha through his party leader insisted on his demand.
Even a few Chennai corporation councillors are now approaching corporation zonal officers seeking speedy execution of projects to woo voters. “Last year, I was behind a north Chennai councillor insisting that he raise issues related to sewer overflow at council meeting so that a new pumping station can be established, but he ignored the idea. Now, the same councillor after four years has woken up and pesters me to propose a new pumping station in his ward,” said a Chennai metro water engineer seeking anonymity.
