Rakhi rituals of the stars

When it comes to festivals, our celebrities are just like us… preferring to spend the occasion with their near and dear ones
Vishnu Manchu
Since childhood, we have been celebrating Rakhi every year. My sister Lakshmi is very precious to us and she demands whatever she wants. After we grew up and started films, I used to give her a blank cheque every year. Sisters are born to demand from their brothers whatever they want (laughs) on this particular day. If I do not give, she complains to my father and he always supporters her. Now, if we buy gifts for her daughter, Vidya Nirvana, my sister also asks for a separate gift. So I have to buy two gifts, for my sister and her daughter.
Nikhil Siddhartha
I am going to miss this year’s celebrations as I am shooting in the interiors of Maharashtra and can’t travel back home. I plan to get the rakhi tied once I am back to Hyderabad. Once I am back I shall check what my sister wants as a gift this year.
Raashi Khanna
I am shooting in Sweden and won’t be sending a Rakhi to my brother. We decided that since we would not be together at the day, we would celebrate when we would meet. My brother is working in the Merchant Navy and is my best friend. He always gifts me gadgets because I never buy any for myself. Last time he gifted me an iPhone. And I usually take him out for dinner.
Sundeep Kishan
My sister is studying in London and she sent a Rakhi through my mother. Whether we are at home or away, every year we celebrate this festival.
Generally we discuss films and my sister is my best critic. She says whatever she feels on my face, whether bad or good. She has been asking for a phone for a long time, so I am gifting her a phone this year. We always celebrate Rakhi and we never miss each other’s birthdays either.
Rakul Preet
We celebrate almost every year. As my brother is younger to me, he used to tie me a Rakhi. If I am home, we celebrate with all our family members over lunch or dinner. Now that I am in Hyderabad for my film shooting, I have asked my brother to come here. We always try to be together on this day. My brother is younger to me so I don’t expect a gift from him but he still gets me whatever he can every year. I always laugh it off saying “my gift would be you being a responsible person”.
Hansika Motwani
I am back in Mumbai to celebrate Raksha Bandhan with my brother Prashanth. Our usual routine for Raksha Bandhan goes like this — wake up early in the morning, cook prasadam and offer it to god. After the pooja, tie the Rakhi on his wrist. I don’t address him by his name and call him bhaiyya, the way he prefers. Bhaiyya knows everything about me and vice versa. I would proudly say that he is my ‘Secret Book’. My brother always insists that I approve the major things in his life. My mother is looking for a match for him and he has already said that it is me who has to approve first.
Akshay Kumar
I’ve never had one single fight with my sister Alka. It’s impossible for us to fall out, we share an unbreakable bond. For siblings at loggerheads, I would suggest, don’t ignore the problem for the fear of a fight. Instead of avoiding confrontation, I think getting into a confined space with the aggrieved one, and not leaving the locked room till things are resolved is a far better way to get through life than carrying and trying to ignore the grief for decades.
Kriti Sanon
I celebrate Raksha Bandhan with my sister every year. Raksha Bandhan should not be just about a brother promising to protect his sister. It can be siblings’ promising to protect each other.
Madhushalini
I have two brothers, one is elder to me and lives in Hyderabad while my younger brother is in New Zealand. I sent a Rakhi to New Zealand and he sent me cash and asked me to buy a fancy bag. I am also going to tie a Rakhi to my elder brother and his gift will be a surprise. This year some of my cousin brothers are also in Hyderabad so I will be meeting them as well.
