Sanjay Dutt walks out of jail on parole

Parole is granted for 30 days and can be extended twice for 30 days each in a year

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who has received a lot of criticism over his frequent parole and furlough leaves, on Wednesday once again walked out of Yerawada jail on parole. Dutt had sought to be released on parole for 30 days on the ground that his daughter is scheduled to undergo a nose surgery and he needs to be with her. Considering this, the Pune divisional commissioner sanctioned his application.

Furlough is the right of a prisoner, under which he gets 28 days of exemption in a year while parole is granted in extremely exceptional cases such as natural calamities and illness of a prisoner or his family members. Parole is granted for 30 days and can be extended twice for 30 days each in a year.

The jail administration has, however, has denied that the actor was being given “special and lenient” treatment, as alleged by many social and political organisations.
