Jet Airways expands code share agreement with SAA

Passengers can now fly India-South Africa over Jet Airways' Abu Dhabi gateway

Mumbai: Jet Airways has further expanded its code share agreement with South African flag carrier South African Airways (SAA), providing enhanced and seamless air connectivity between the two countries via the airline's Abu Dhabi overseas hub.

With an expanded code share pact, which is effective with immediate effect, the passengers of the two carriers can enjoy convenient flight connections between India and South Africa, over Jet Airways' Abu Dhabi gateway, Jet Airways said in a release. Code-sharing of flights allows an airline to book passengers on its partner carriers and provide seamless transport to multiple destinations where it has no presence.

Under the arrangement, Jet Airways passengers can now fly on South African Airways' flights from Abu Dhabi to Johannesburg and beyond to Cape Town and Durban. South African Airways passengers bound for Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad can board Jet Airways flights from Abu Dhabi for these destinations in India, the release said.

"This enhanced partnership is a further demonstration of Jet Airways' strong network that offers an unmatched connectivity between India and the rest of the world. We are confident that our partnership with South African Airways will further stimulate business and tourism between India and South Africa," Jet Airways chief commercial officer Raj Sivakumar said.

Commenting on the enhanced partnership, SAA Chief Commercial Officer Sylvain Bosc said that there is substantial potential for trade growth between the two countries and the expansion in code share pact aims to facilitate the growth. "This partnership enforces the historic commercial, political and cultural cooperation between South Africa and India, following the termination of SAA's direct flights between South Africa and India," he said.
