Tamil Nadu Assembly condoles Abdul Kalam, MS Viswanathan

The House adjourned for the day after it adopted condolence resolutions
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Assembly session on Monday began with obituary references to former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former TN minister Senthur Pandian and music composer M.S. Viswanathan. The House adjourned for the day after it adopted condolence resolutions.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s arrival at the Assembly marked celebrations by the ruling AIADMK as she returned to House post acquittal in the assets case, winning by a record margin in R.K.Nagar bypoll.
Even as the ruling AIADMK legislators greeted the party supremo raising slogans, Speaker P. Dhanapal went a step ahead lauding her for her “record victory” in the R.K. Nagar by-election amid loud thumping of desks by Treasury benches.
Terming the party supremo’s victory history, the Speaker said there was no one equal to Amma (Jayalalithaa) irking the opposition MLAs who were squirming in their seats. The eulogy by the Speaker continued for more than eight minutes.
Three separate resolutions were later adopted hailing the contributions of Abdul Kalam, Senthur Pandian and Viswanathan and the elected representatives stood in silence as a mark of respect. Obituary references were also made condoling the deaths of 10 former MLAs. On Tuesday, the demand for grants for Housing Agriculture departments would be taken up.
