Enforcement Directorate issues summons to Karti Chidambaram's firm

Aircel-Maxis deal had taken place during Dayanidhi Maran’s tenure in Sanchar Bhavan

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate on Monday issued summons to two directors of a firm said to be owned by Karti Chidambaram, son of former finance minister P. Chidambaram, as part of its ongoing investigation of the Aircel-Maxis case.

The Aircel-Maxis deal had taken place during Dayanidhi Maran’s tenure in Sanchar Bhavan. According to sources, the agency has summoned the two directors to probe the alleged financial transaction between the company owned by Mr Karti Chidambaram and Aircel.

The deal was allegedly made just before the company was given approval by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board. The Aircel-Maxis deal is being probed by both, the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation, and the case is part of the overall probe in the 2G scam case.

“The ED wants to know why the company owned by Mr Karti Chidambaram was allegedly allotted shares at a lower rate,” sources said.
