KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode is all set to welcome Onam with a wide range of cultural programmes starting from Wednesday. Along with the main venue at Beach, eight other venues will also host the Onam celebrations during the five-day-long cultural programmes.
Apart from the city, Vadakara, Koyilandy and Thamaraserry are among the venues during the celebrations. The celebrity football league as part of the celebrations has already started on Saturday.
The programmes, jointly organised by the district administration and the district tourism promotion council, feature a number of cele-brities and eminent personalities from various fields.
Vineeth Sriniv-asan, Najeem Arshad, Muktha, Vidhu Prathap, Sarayu, Harisree Ashokan, Eka Musical Baand etc., are some of the big names at the cultural programmes to be organised at the main venue.
The Town Hall will host the Drama festival during the Onam Fest 2015. Nishabdha Vasantham by Pookad Kalalayam Childrens’ Theater, Kottipadi Seva by Aksharakala, Thiruvananthapuram, Sugandha Vyapari by Kollam Kalidasa Kalakendhram and Theekanal are the plays being staged during the drama fest.
Mananchira Square will host the folklore art programmes whereas the Chavara Cultural Centre will be the destination point for music buffs.
Tug of war competition, Kalaripayattu, Shaolin, Kung Fu, Wushu and Yoga performances will be held at Mananchira.
A number of established and emerging littérateurs will enrich Sahithyolsavam at Town Hall. A quiz competition ‘Chodya Sadya’ will be held at Town Hall on Wednesday.
