Punjab police serves notice to Radhe Maa asking her to join probe

The SSP sent a 'parwana' (notice) to her through a special messenger to Mumbai

Chandigarh: Punjab Police has issued a notice to controversial 'godwoman' Radhe Maa asking her to join the probe in connection with the complaint lodged against her by a local resident here alleging that she had hurt his religious sentiments and for spreading obscenity and vulgarity, police said on Sunday. A special police messenger carried the notice to Mumbai and served it on Saturday. She had been asked to join investigation in connection with Surinder Mittal s complaint submitted to Kapurthala SSP Rajinder Singh about 10-days ago, they said.

Surinder Mittal, a local resident and former district president of VHP in his complaint had accused her of trying to bribe him, threatening, torturing, seducing, hurting his religious sentiments and also for spreading obscenity and vulgarity, the police said.

In the complaint, Mittal had also demanded registration of a case against Radhe Maa's sister Rajjo Maasi, her daughter-in-law Megha, her close associate Ritu Sareen also called as Chhotti Maa and her follower, Mumbai-based Sanjeev Gupta, they said. Mittal had submitted recordings of his telephonic conversations with Radhe Maa and her sister in April last and printouts of WhatsApp messages from their mobile phones and that of her daughter-in-law. He further alleged that he was offered money and when he rejected them and he started getting threats. He claimed she was "falsely claiming herself as incarnation of goddess" and was hurting religious sentiments and spreading obscenity.

The SSP had marked the complaint to Phagwara police, which, after perusing it, sent a 'parwana' (notice) to her through a special messenger to Mumbai, they said. When contacted, Phagwara DSP Manpreet Singh Dhillon confirmed it. He, however, clarified that only a notice was served.

"No summons were sent to her and no case was yet registered against her. She has only been asked to join the investigations," said Dhillon.
