Karnataka: Government to restart issuing G category sites

Law minister Jayachandra says committee formed to frame the rules

Bengaluru: The State government is all set to restart issuing G category sites, which was stopped for sometime in the wake of stay by the Karnataka High Court, against allotting the sites to public servants.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr T.B. Jayachandra told reporters here on Friday that the government was in the process of framing rules in this regard and once it is done, the allotment of sites would restart.

Earlier, the High Court had directed the government to stop allotting sites under G category. However, the division bench has felt that the government could allot sites to the people, who do not have site in any part of the state. In the wake of second judgment, the government has framed the rules, the Minister said.

Following the second order, the government has set up a committee comprising former Karnataka High Court Judge Justice Farooq, Justice Srinivas Reddy, retired IAS officer Subhir Hari Singh and others. The committee would go through the High Court direction and make recommendation to the government. Once the government receives the report, rules would be framed for allotting sites, the Minister said.

In the wake of High Court judgment, the government has also amended BDA rules, categorising who is public servant and who is not, he added.
