There have been widespread complaints by cinema goers about the fleecing at Sreekumar and Sreevisakh

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After much hue and cry, Sreekumar and Sreevisakh theatre complex will finally be shut down for renovation soon. With complaints mounting on overcharging, unhygienic environment, the authorities have finally decided to renovate the theatre on par with other renovated theatres. There have been widespread complaints by cinema goers about the fleecing at Sreekumar and Sreevisakh.

“Other renovated theatres with good facilities and projectors are charging RS 100 for a balcony ticket but Sreekumar with no facilities is also charging the same. It’s totally unfair. The theatre is infested with rats, seating arrangement is poor and there is no hygiene at all,” said Aneesh Mohan, a cine-goer.

Managing Director of City Theatres Pvt Ltd S Murugan said that the theatres would be shut down after Onam. “We are not adding on any additional screens. We will be renovating the structure totally to provide state-of-the-art facilities for the audience. We will upgrade the projectors and renovate the interiors to add comfort,” said Mr Murugan.

He said that more parking spaces would be arranged within the premises. “There is space inside the premises and we are planning to develop more parking spaces. There are a few structures surrounding the theatre,” added Mr Murugan. He said that the renovation work would be completed within four months.
