Plans afoot to build 11 plants that would generate power from solid waste
Visakhapatnam: Municipal administration minister P Narayana, on Monday, said they have decided to go ahead with land acquisition for construction of capital city after the pooling exercise draws to a close on 20 of this month.
Speaking to newsmen here, the minister said they had pooled 95 per cent of land in the first phase and the balance will acquired from August 20. The minister held a review meeting with the Commissioner of GVMC Pravin Kumar, Anakapalle MP M. Srinivasa Rao and said the tenders for the power generation plants from solid waste will be finalised in five days.
The minister said 11 such plants would be established in the state, each costing around Rs 300 to Rs 500 crore. Of the 11, the plant in Vizag will be the biggest in the state, he said. The city generates around 1,000 tonne of solid waste everyday.
Mr Narayana said power would be generated from the plants in 18 months. As part of Swacch Bharat, Swacchandhra and Swacch Vizag, repair of all the Sulabh complexes and community toilets would be completed by the end of September. He also suggested that the 14,000 individual toilets being taken up by the GVMC should be completed around same time. Replying a query on the special category status to AP, he said the CM will speak to PM Modi.
