Governor K Rosaiah and J Jayalalithaa extend Independence-Day greetings

Jayalalithaa recalled the selfless services rendered by freedom fighters
CHENNAI: Governor K. Rosaiah and Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa have wished people on the occasion of Independence Day. In a message, Jayalalithaa recalled the selfless services rendered by freedom fighters. She said her government had increased freedom fighters pension from Rs 9,000 to Rs 10,000 and the pension for the kin of the freedom fighters from Rs 4,500 to Rs 5,000.
“To make the younger generation learn about the sacrifices done by freedom fighters, our government has constructed, renovated and maintained memorial for several freedom fighters,” she said.
Jayalalithaa said on the occasion of Independence day, people from all walks of life irrespective of their caste, creed and language should take a vow to make India a super power. Rosaiah urged people to take a pledge to revitalise their energies to make India a global leader in all spheres.
“We are proud to be the citizens of this great nation. May reason guide us and further strengthen the national fabric and bonds of unity to make India glorious,” he said. Political leaders, including PMK founder S. Ramadoss, CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan and TMC president G.K. Vasan, have extended their greetings to people.
“The citizens of the country must realise that democracy and social justice are not just interlinked, but also inter-dependent,” said Mohammed Abdul Ali, Prince of Arcot.s
