Calicut University booklet hails Dr Abdul Salam, stirs row

Syndicate members seek explanation

KOZHIKODE: The decisions taken by former Vice-Chancellor Dr Abdul Salam are still creating controversies in the Calicut University. A publication released by the university hailing the achievements of Dr Abdul Salam has invited the ire of syndicate members.

The 199- page, multi-colour ‘CU News’ was printed in the university press without informing the registrar who has sought a clarification from the publication officer and the university press superintendent.

Syndicate member Dr V.P. Abdul Hameed, in a letter sent to registrar Dr T.A. Abdul Majeed, said that the ‘CU News’ glorifying Dr Salam was published violating procedures and against the decision taken at a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister.

“The content is not factual but an attempt to glorify the VC and tarnish the image of the syndicate,” he said. “Earlier, a similar issue was raised at a meeting called by the Chief Minister. The same mistake has been repeated,” he said in the mail.

In his reply, the registrar said that he had not approved of the content of the publication and asked the officers concerned to clarify immediately.
