BJP confident of passing GST Bill

We will work with other parties: Nirmala
Chennai: The ruling BJP believes that there is still enough (time) to get the GST (goods and services tax) Bill passed and meet the April 1, 2016, deadline to implement the GST regime, despite disruptions engineered by the Congress forcing the ruling party to end the monsoon session of Parliament without doing any business.
Union commerce and industry minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the government is “very optimistic” of getting the reform bills like GST passed in Parliament by working with other parties. Her statement comes amid reports of the BJP planning a two-day special session to get GST like crucial bills passed in Parliament.
“I am very optimistic. Yes, ideally we will stick to the deadline,” said the MoS when asked about meeting the April 1, 2016, deadline for implementing the GST regime. “Let us see. Obviously I cannot lay the entire blueprint in front of you now, we wish to work together with everybody to have that passed,” a reticent Ms Sitharaman added.
Blaming the Congress and Left parties for opposing the GST Bill, Ms Sitharaman said that the BJP would launch a drive in all the constituencies held by Congress and Left to tell the people that the parties were stifling the nation’s growth by blocking good laws.
Likening the logjam created by Congress in Parliament to the emergency days, she said the Congress is displaying the “same, narrow mindset seen during the Emergency days (of 1975)” by blocking functioning of Parliament. Stating that the BJP regime was “not afraid of such conspiracies” and it would tell the people of the “fake drama” staged by the Congress, Ms Sitharaman said, “We will tell the people (about what happened in the just held Parliamentary session)... One minister with at least four MPs will go, there will be a minimum of 25-50 public meetings.”
