Kerala High Court refuses to consider Tantri Kandaru Mohanaru plea

Mohanaru submitted that his father was bedridden and incapacitated to do the tantric rites

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Thursday refused to interfere with tantri Kandaru Mohanaru's plea seeking permission to perform tantric rites and duties at Sabarimala.

The court granted permission to his son Kandaru Mahesh Mohanaru to discharge the duties from August 17. Kandararu Mahesh Mohanararu is the grandson of senior tantri Kandararu Maheswararu. In view of the allegations and the criminal case, Kandararu Mohanararu was not being permitted to discharge the tantric rites.

A division bench comprising Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice Sunil Thomas issued the order on a petition filed by Kandararu Mohanararu challenging the Travancore Devaswom Board letter informing him that the board had not changed its earlier stand and that he would not be permitted to do the tantric rites.

Mohanaru submitted that his father was bedridden and incapacitated to do the tantric rites. The petitioner pointed out that there was no reason to deny the petitioner's legitimate birth right to perform the rites.

Though a trial court had acquitted him in the case, the TDB had not changed its stand, he said.
