Flyer with 3 kilogram gold in shoes held at RGI airport

The total value of gold bars is around Rs 75 lakh

Hyderabad: Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit on Wednesday arrested a man who tried to smuggle gold by concealing two gold bars weighing 3 kg in his shoes at RGI airport. The passenger had arrived from Dubai by Emirates Airlines Flight EK-528.

He denied having any goods on which duty could be levied, and walked through the green channel. AIU officials noticed that he seemed to have extra weight on his feet.

“He also appeared very nervous, so we took him and frisked,” an AIU official said. On conducting a detailed personal search, they recovered gold bars weighing 3 kg concealed in the shoes.

“Each shoe had a 1.5-kg gold bar inside,” the official said.

The total value of gold bars is around Rs 75lakh, an official of the Air Intelligence Unit said.
